Getting started
PopFlow is a Webflow app — you install it once via Webflow, then build and manage everything from the PopFlow dashboard. Getting your first popup live takes about three minutes.
Connect your Webflow site
Create a popup or announcement bar
Go Live, then publish your Webflow site
Creating a popup
A popup is an overlay that appears over your page. Every popup supports:
- Headline & body text — The main message your visitors read.
- Image (optional) — A hosted image URL with alt text, shown above the text.
- Call-to-action button (optional) — A labelled button linking to any URL — great for driving visitors to a product, offer, or sign-up page.
- Email capture (Pro) — A built-in email field with a customisable placeholder and button label. Submitted emails are saved as leads you can export.
- Appearance — Background, text, and accent colours, plus the on-screen position.
Choose how and when the popup shows with triggers and frequency, and limit where it appears with page targeting.
On the Free plan, a popup fires on page load in the bottom-left corner with image and a CTA button. Triggers, positioning, email capture, and page targeting are Pro features.
Triggers & frequency
Triggers decide when a popup appears:
- On page load — Shows as soon as the page is ready.
- After a time delay — Shows after a number of seconds you set — good for letting visitors read first.
- On scroll depth — Shows once the visitor scrolls past a percentage of the page (e.g. 50%), signalling engagement.
- On exit intent — Shows when the visitor’s cursor leaves toward the top of the window, as if to close the tab — a last chance to convert.
Frequency decides how often the same visitor sees it:
- Every visit — Shows on every page load.
- Once per session — Shows once until the visitor closes their browser tab.
- Once ever — Shows a single time, then never again on that device.
- Once per week — Shows again only after seven days.
Frequency is remembered in the visitor’s own browser storage — no cookies, nothing sent to us. To re-test a popup yourself, open the page in a private/incognito window.
Page targeting
By default a popup shows on every page. To limit it, add one or more URL fragments to Show only on pages containing — separated by commas. A popup appears if the current page’s URL contains any of them.
/pricing— only on your pricing page./shop, /product— on any shop or product page.- Leave it blank to show on the whole site.
Page targeting is a Pro feature.
Announcement bars
An announcement bar is a slim, fixed banner pinned to the top or bottom of every page — ideal for promotions, free-shipping thresholds, launches, or notices. Each bar supports:
- Message — The text shown to visitors (emoji welcome).
- Call-to-action (optional) — A labelled link button — clicks are tracked so you can measure its click-through rate.
- Position — Fixed to the top or bottom of the viewport.
- Colours — Background and text colours to match your brand.
- Frequency — The same options as popups (every visit, once per session, once ever, once per week).
Visitors can dismiss a bar with its close button; your frequency setting controls whether it returns.
Editing & publishing
There are two different kinds of change, and they behave differently:
- Editing your content (instant) — Changing a popup or bar’s text, colours, trigger, targeting, or toggling it on/off takes effect on your live site immediately — no re-publish needed. The installed script fetches your latest setup every time a visitor loads a page.
- Installing or updating the script (needs publish) — The very first Go Live, and the occasional Update prompt for a new script version, change your site’s custom code — so they only appear after you publish your Webflow site.
Capturing & exporting leads
Enable email capture on a popup (Pro) to collect visitor emails. When a visitor submits the form, their email is saved to that popup as a lead.
- View lead counts on the Popups list and the Analytics tab.
- Click Export CSV next to any popup to download its leads (email + date captured) as a spreadsheet-ready file.
- If email notifications are enabled on your account, you’ll also receive a message at your account email each time a new lead comes in.
You are responsible for obtaining appropriate consent from your visitors before collecting their data, and for handling it in line with applicable privacy laws.
Analytics & metrics
The Analytics tab (Pro) gives you a performance overview for your site:
- Views — How many times each popup or bar has been shown to visitors.
- Leads & CVR (popups) — Captured emails, and conversion rate — leads divided by popup views.
- Clicks & CTR (bars) — Clicks on a bar’s call-to-action, and click-through rate — clicks divided by bar views.
The summary cards at the top roll these up into total views, total leads captured, overall conversion rate, and how many popups/bars are currently active.
Plans & billing
Free includes one popup and one announcement bar with a page-load trigger, image, CTA button, and custom colours — no credit card required.
Pro ($5/month) unlocks unlimited popups and bars, all four trigger types, frequency and position control, email capture with CSV export, URL page targeting, and analytics.
Upgrade from the dashboard — checkout is handled securely by Stripe; PopFlow never sees your card details. Manage or cancel anytime from the account menu → Manage subscription, which opens Stripe’s billing portal. See the pricing page for a full feature comparison.
Security & privacy
PopFlow is built to protect both your account and your visitors:
- Least-privilege access — PopFlow requests only four Webflow scopes — read your account identity, read your sites, and read/write custom code — nothing more.
- Encrypted tokens — Your Webflow access token is encrypted at rest, and all traffic runs over HTTPS.
- Gated dashboard & data — Your dashboard, lead exports, and every editing action require your authenticated Webflow session. Someone who merely knows your site’s ID cannot view your leads or change your popups.
- No visitor tracking — The injected script sets no tracking cookies and never follows visitors across other sites. It uses browser storage only to honour your “show frequency” setting.
- Clean removal — Disconnecting removes the script from your site and deletes your PopFlow data.
Full details are in our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
Troubleshooting
If something isn’t behaving, this checklist resolves almost everything:
- Popup/bar not visible? Publish your Webflow site after Go Live, confirm the item is toggled On, and check it isn’t being hidden by your frequency setting (try incognito).
- Showing on the wrong pages? Review the popup’s page-targeting fragments.
- Edits not appearing? Content edits are instant on the live site — hard-refresh the page (your browser may be caching). You do not need to re-publish for content changes.
- “Update” prompt in the sidebar? Click it, then re-publish your Webflow site to roll out the new script version.
- Still stuck? Email us — see below.
Frequently asked questions
My popup or bar isn't showing on my live site — why?
Work through these in order: (1) Did you publish your Webflow site after clicking Go Live? Custom code only appears on the published site after a publish. (2) Is the popup/bar toggled On in the dashboard? (3) If you set URL targeting, does it match the page you're viewing? (4) Have you already dismissed it this session — your frequency setting (e.g. 'once per session') may be hiding it; try an incognito window. (5) Make sure you're viewing the published domain (yoursite.webflow.io or your custom domain), not the Webflow Designer preview.
Do I need to re-publish every time I edit a popup?
No. Once PopFlow is installed and you've published once, edits to your popups and bars — text, colours, triggers, toggling on/off — appear on your live site immediately, with no re-publish. That's because the installed script loads your latest configuration each time a visitor opens a page. You only re-publish for the very first Go Live, or on the rare occasion PopFlow asks you to click 'Update' to install a new version of the script.
Do I need to write any code?
No. PopFlow injects everything for you when you click Go Live, using Webflow's official Custom Code API. You never touch code, embeds, or the Designer's custom-code panel.
Where are the emails my popup captures?
In your dashboard, on both the Popups list and the Analytics tab. Each popup that has leads shows an 'Export CSV' button to download them. Email capture is a Pro feature.
Will PopFlow slow down my site?
No. The script is tiny, loads asynchronously, and never blocks your page from rendering. It adds no external fonts, frameworks, or tracking pixels.
Does PopFlow set cookies or track my visitors?
No tracking cookies. The injected script uses your visitors' browser local/session storage for a single purpose — remembering which popups or bars they've already seen, so your 'show frequency' setting is respected. That data stays in the visitor's browser and is never sent to us or used for advertising.
Can other people see my leads or change my popups?
No. Your dashboard, lead exports, and every editing action are gated to your authenticated Webflow session — knowing your site's ID is not enough to view or change anything. See Security & privacy below.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open the account menu (bottom-left of the dashboard) and click 'Manage subscription' to open the secure Stripe billing portal, where you can update your card or cancel. If you cancel, you keep Pro until the end of your current billing period, then drop to Free automatically.
What happens to my popups if I downgrade to Free?
Nothing is deleted. If you have more than one popup or bar, they're all preserved — but only the first of each will be served to visitors while you're on Free. Upgrade again and everything resumes.
What happens to my data if I disconnect?
Disconnecting removes PopFlow's script from your site (so popups stop showing) and permanently deletes your popups, bars, and captured leads for that site. This can't be undone — export any leads you want to keep first.
Is my data secure?
Yes. Your Webflow access token is encrypted at rest, all traffic is over HTTPS, your dashboard and data are gated to your authenticated session, and we never sell your data. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
